300,000 pageviews & giveaway

a week or so ago, the my2fish Sunfish sailing blog passed 300,000 pageviews (all-time).  it took a little under 4 years to reach 200,000 – and now just over 1 year later it has now passed the 300k mark.

it is interesting (to me at least!), to watch the ebb and flow of the blog visitors.  with a mostly summer sport, it definitely slows down during the winter – and then picks up quite a bit as the weather warms up – peaking in that June/July/August time when sailing is a bit more relevant to most people’s lives.

for those who have just found the blog – thanks for visiting, and I hope you stick around a while!

for those who have been following the blog for a long time – thanks for all the views, the comments, and the feedback over these last few years!  I’ve had a lot of fun with the blogging, and I hope it’s been an interesting journey.

similar to the 200k giveaway, I am having another cool gear giveaway to celebrate the 300,000 pageview milestone! once again, this will be from gybe-ho boatwear, an awesome supplier of boating and sailing apparel (custom-made gear, too).

the winner of the giveaway will receive a t-shirt and a hat from gybe-ho – he has a variety of items in stock and will work with the winner to make sure you are happy!

here are the giveaway details, rules, etc.

  • to enter the contest, you need to leave a comment on this blog post (you can enter your name as “anonymous”, or whatever you like really) – but I will need an email to contact you if you are chosen as the winner!
  • no specific requirement for the comment itself, but I will moderate if need be!
  • multiple comments do not equal multiple entries!
  • after 1 week, I will randomly select a commenter to receive the free t-shirt and hat.  I will send the winner’s email address to gybe-ho, and they will contact you to get your mailing address to they can ship the t-shirt and hat directly to the winner.

thanks again for visiting the blog! and let the commenting begin!

I just got a sunfish for my family. As a mom and a dad, we are learning this sport together with our seven year old and nine year old. We are showing the, that you never stop learning!

I must be doing something wrong! I am creeping up on 70k views all time and just passed the three year mark! Keep up the good work and I look forward to more posts!

Congratulations. I never notice a seasonal trend in my blog traffic but then I’ve never really looked to see if it’t there! What are you using to monitor traffic and make fancy graphs like the one in this post?

Thanks Tillerman, your blog has always been a good source of inspiration (or is it perspiration? I forget…)

I’m a math nerd, so find numbers and stats interesting. I recently got rid of the sitemeter thing (after Captain JP’s post), and just use the stats in WordPress. I created a spreadsheet where I just enter the total stats each month – and then used the data to generate a graph. I’m using a Google Docs for this particular spreadsheet.

    Impressive … most impressive!

My husband and I love reading your blog and hope, once we have kids, we can make sailing a regular family activity. We just hope our club’s Sea Scout program sticks around long enough for group lessons with their peers!

Great Blog, I have been reading for a long time but the boat is still not ready.

I’m picking up my first Sunfish this Sunday for use here in the small wonder of Delaware. I plan on teaching my 7 year old to sail on some small lakes around here and take it out myself on the Delaware Bay.
Your blog has been entertaining and educational. Congrats on 300k!

I remember when you won that award for super-cool sailing blog. Or something like that.

I’d like to win some sailing swag.

Oh, and an idea: join Facebook and watch your page views rise.

Hey I really appreciate all of the sunfish related information. Being from South Dakota sailing resources are few and far between. When I read about putting an inspection port in my fish it was helpful to read for positioning to make sure I wouldn’t hit anything that matters. Also just the planned upgrades and where to get products information you listed helped me plan future modifications.

    Thanks again

    Hiya my2fish,
Sorry to be late to the party, but the winner has arrived. 🙂

Congrats on the 300k page views and here’s to another 300k in half the time!

300 k? Of course! What’s not to like about your blog?

But quality is more important that quantity I am sure you will agree. And your blog and its readers represent the latter. 🙂 So regardless of the stats, you rock! Thanks for a great blog.
