[here’s a video from last fall that I finally got around to editing] a group of us guys climbed up through the wooded area on the back/side of the dune to the top of south bluff, a giant sand dune south of Arcadia, Michigan. these dunes are not as high as the Sleeping Bear Dunes a little bit north of Arcadia, and have quite a bit more vegetation.
after reaching (not quite) the top of the dune, we each set off running down the sand dune to the shores of Lake Michigan. the sand dune is a lot higher than you think – it is pretty difficult to throw a rock and have it reach the water.
after running down the dune, it is only a short walk north up the beach to the pier and lighthouse at the entrance channel to Arcadia Lake for the traditional pier jumping. I’ve got some video of that too, but will have to edit that later.
