with a large family like mine, it it often difficult to align everyone’s schedule and get us all together at once. so this year we celebrated Christmas with my side of the family a few days late, opening presents on Friday night, and then having our big holiday dinner Saturday night. here is my dinner plate:
here is a photo of dessert:
here is the photo quiz:
- what is the main type of meat from dinner?
- what are the 2 sauces for the meat (both at the top of the plate)?
- what are the 6 side dishes? (or just list as many ingredients as you can)
- what was the dessert (with ingredients)?
- how many of the my2fish clan were in attendance?
- what is the air-speed velocity of an unladen swallow?
if you are a family member who was at the dinner, don’t give away any answers, but feel free to comment with thoughts (and any corrections if I incorrectly identify anything!).
good luck!

Roasted carrots

cranberry sauce on the cheesecake
Hollandaise sauce?
well it looks like it’s just you and me at this party, Baydog.
meat was roasted leg of lamb.
the middle vegetable was also sweet potatoes, sliced and pan fried(?).
the 2nd sauce was tzaziki (cucumber, plain yogurt, parsley).
there was technically 2 different risotto dishes, too – one with mushrooms, and the other was a lemon & asparagus risotto… both were excellent.
correct on the cranberry sauce.
the cheesecake was a special – it was made with no crust so it’d be gluten free (for my wife), so there were also some ginger snap cookies on the side for those of us that can and do enjoy some gluten in our lives.
total my2fish clan: my 2 parents, 6 of their children + spouses = 14 adults, and then 13 grandchildren, so 27 total. missing was the youngest brother and his wife and 2 children (so would be 31 total if they could have been there).
Huge gathering, M2F. I love leg of lamb. Why so little of either sauce on the plate? Did you eat too much pickled herring during cocktail hour?
Haha. I’m not a huge leg of lamb fan, although this time it was great. But my general rule of thumb with sauce is I prefer to just have a hint of it so it doesn’t overpower the flavor of the meat. Call me crazy? Maybe.
