today’s tunes: sunny

enjoy this cover of the popular song “Sunny” originally by Bobby Hebb, written 49 years ago tomorrow.

Hebb wrote the song after November 22, 1963, the day U.S. President John F. Kennedy was assassinated and Hebb’s older brother Harold was stabbed to death outside a Nashville nightclub. Hebb was devastated by both events and many critics say that those events inspired the tune.

this version is by the Ann Street Soul Stirrers, a band at the University of Michigan [the hated rival].

you can also download the song at the band’s Bandcamp site.
